Experimenting, Experimenting
We have been refining some of the techniques and materials we are working with as we do want to develop a level of consistency with the natural inks , though we cannot always predict the outcome- it is a process of surprises all along the way but there are a few basics which underpins everything we do. In a way we are trying t prove that there is a little method in the madness but that the madness offers lovely surprises and leads us off into all sorts of directions.
One thing we have been thinking about a lot is the seasonality of things. For example we have been playing around with grasses for at the present time , its the time of the grasses in Australia- everywhere along the roadsides there are all manner of interestingly shaped grasses and grains with seed heads, some offer interesting print opportunities others are less interesting but unless you try you don’t know how they will look. they are elongated in shape but in the landscape form part of the horizontal layers of the foreground - does this make them more interesting in the horizontal format or do you exaggerate the vertical aspect of the grasses
We are inkpot Alchemists working with natural inks and techniques associated in working with natural inks. It draws us closer to nature and focuses our attention on really seeing what is around us and how we can form a connection with place.
