Can Place be translocated?

It all begins with an idea. Can the notion of Place be artistically expressed in any place using inks made from that place?

Dijanne and I are setting out on a journey of discovery to see how this idea might work. Taking advantage of Dijanne teaching in Italy and exhibiting in France, we are setting out to explore the ink possibilities in these new exotic locations (exotic for me as an Australian who has never been to Europe). We are leaving in less than two weeks! We are finishing in the UK staying with our artist colleague, Trish McCarthy, who also considers place, memories and natural materials as the driver of her current artistic practice. Our hope that in talking to people in different locations about Places close to their heart, we will really grab the notion of how they care for it and how it cares for them. Building on the magic of artistic expression using our inks made from these places will bring understanding, knowledge and vision for the intricate web of nature and our part in it.
